Systems We Install · Onondaga County

Six system types. Right one for your lot.

Conventional gravity is the standard. But Central New York soils, water tables, and lot sizes don't always cooperate. We're licensed to design and install every system type permitted in Onondaga County — and we'll tell you which one actually fits your site.

E01

Conventional Gravity

Standard residential · Onondaga County
Reliable, proven, low-maintenance when properly sized.
Best forMost residential lots with adequate soil depth and percolation
E02

Pressure Distribution

Pump-dosed · timed effluent distribution
Even distribution significantly extends drain field life.
Best forSloped lots, marginal soils, large households
E03

Mound System

Elevated drain field construction
Built above grade to achieve adequate treatment depth.
Best forHigh water tables, shallow bedrock, restrictive soils
E04

Aerobic Treatment Unit

Enhanced treatment · NYSDEC approved
Cleaner effluent and a smaller footprint than conventional.
Best forSmall lots, sensitive soils, environmental overlay areas
E05

Alternative Systems

Engineer-designed · variance-approved
Custom solutions for sites that don't fit standard categories.
Best forChallenging lots where standard systems can't be permitted
E06

Holding Tanks

Tight tank · pump-out only · no discharge
Holds waste until pumped — compliant where no discharge is allowed.
Best forSeasonal properties, waterfront lots with zero-discharge rules
How we work

Five steps, no surprises.

Every job — from a single pump-out to a full system replacement — runs through the same five steps. You always know where the project stands, what the inspector needs to see, and when your yard gets put back together.

01

Site Evaluation

Day 1

We walk the property, locate the existing system, measure setbacks, and assess soil and slope. You leave with a written scope — no obligation.

02

Permit & Planning

Weeks 1–3

We file with the Onondaga County Health Dept. We coordinate soil tests and perc tests where required. You don't navigate county bureaucracy alone.

03

Excavation & Install

Install day(s)

Our licensed crew arrives with the right equipment. Every measurement and depth logged. Nothing buried until it's spec-correct and photo-documented.

04

County Inspection

Within 1 week

We schedule the Onondaga County inspector and walk them through the work. Sign-off is the milestone — we stay until it's approved.

05

Backfill & Restore

Closeout

Grade is restored, disturbed areas are seeded. We hand you the approved permit, the as-built drawing, and component warranties. Done.

Why homeowners call us back

Three things we don't compromise on.

A lot of contractors can pump a tank. Fewer do it correctly, document it, and still have a recognizable face when you call two years later. Here's what makes the difference.

01

County-Licensed Work, Done Right

All installation and repair work is permitted through the Onondaga County Health Department and inspected before backfill. No shortcuts that come back on you when you sell the house.

02

The Crew That Shows Up

We show up when we say we will. We finish when we say we will. The invoice matches the quote. If something changes, you hear about it in writing — not after the fact.

03

An Emergency Line That Answers

Septic backups don't wait for Monday. Call (315) 699-1520 on a Saturday night and you'll talk to someone who can dispatch a truck — not a voicemail box.

Charlie & Sonja.

C Mattes is Charlie on the job and Sonja on the phone — both Mattes, both working, both with their names on the company. When something goes wrong, you're not escalating to a regional manager. You're talking to an owner.

Charlie Mattes
Owner · Field Operations

Charlie runs the field. He's on-site, operating equipment, overseeing installs, and making sure every system leaves the ground working exactly as permitted. He's the one who marks out the field, coordinates with the county inspector, and won't backfill until the work is right. When you see a C Mattes truck on your street, you're looking at Charlie's truck.

— Charlie
Sonja Mattes
Owner · Office & Customer Service

Sonja handles scheduling, permit coordination, and customer communication. She's the one who picks up when you call, works with the county health department to keep projects moving, and makes sure every client knows what's happening and when. If you've called C Mattes, you've talked to Sonja. If she says Charlie will be there Thursday, he'll be there Thursday.
